Huangyan, the renowned"Land of Mandarin Oranges in China", has been extensively recognized as the "the origin of Chinese oranges, the source of private businessmen, and the fairy land in Southeast China featuring scenic waters and mountains". Its 988 square kms land area housing a population of 587,700 is located in the middle part of the golden coastline of Southeast China's Zhejiang Province.

Huangyan is an ancient city witnessing the gathering of talents and the prosperity of cultures with a long history of more than 1300 years since its establishment as a county in the second year of Shangyuan Reign of Tang Dynasty (A.D. 675). This magic and ancient land was not only the home to those valued cultural relics and historic sites such as Huangyan Confucian Temple,the historical celadon porcelain kiln site and the Lingshi Temple Pagoda,but also the birth place of a myriad of people of talent amongst whom are Du Fan, a famous prime minister of Southern Song Dynasty and Dai Fugu, a great poet of the same dynasty; as well as Chen Fangyun, a modern expert of great contribution to the "atomic bomb, hydrogen bomb and artificial satellite construction"of China .

At the new page of history, the ancient Huangyan showed even more vigorous vitality.Being amongst the earliest counties in China with yield of rice per mu exceeding the national goal, marking its leading position in promoting agriculture through the help of science and education; Issuing China's first government document to protect and specify enterprises with joint-stock partnership system, thus ushering in the great-leap-forward development of local private economy; Building China's first domestic commodities market which leaded to the springing up of numerous markets; Establishing China's first county-level civil aviation station which contributed much to the booming of local economy. The bud of China's reform was blooming here and private economy was emerging vigorously here, resulting in the development of local community with each passing day.Over ten years efforts have paid off. Presently Huangyan is extensively recognized as the Land of Molds & Dies in China, the Land of Red Bayberry in China, the Capital of Arts & Crafts, the Capital of Plastic Commodities in China, and awarded such honors as National Advanced County for Science and Technology Work ,National Advanced District for Rural TCM Work and National Demonstration District for disabled person community rehabilitation.The clean and energy-saving industry, the environment-friendly and ecological modern agriculture, plus the scenic waters and mountains, form a beautiful portrait and herald a promising future of Huangyan as a Nationally Designated Eco-Demonstration District.
